Buddhist embodied retreats for becoming more free — getting cosy with being human, breaking old patterns and having inconvenient realizations.
Liberation Retreats are immersive journeys into the practice of becoming more free. Rooted in Buddhist Dharma, both contemplative and embodied practices, and the wonderfully inconvenient reality of being a human being. This isn't about fixing yourself, becoming a successful stoic, or being so regulated that nothing pisses you off anymore. Quite the opposite. We practice getting cosy with the mess of human life: and noticing what happens in the body when we do, what we avoid, what we cling to, where we shut down, what keeps repeating, and what becomes possible when we stop automatically doing the thing we always do. Sometimes that brings peace. Sometimes it brings an uncomfortable realization on a Tuesday three weeks later. Both count.
No two retreats are quite the same. We change with the seasons, whether we're paying attention or not. Daylight, cold, heat, rain, long evenings and short nights affect how we sleep, move, feel, connect/withdraw, run out patience or start questioning every single life decision we've ever made. So we work with what's actually happening — outside and inside. With the urge to retreat or emerge, rest or move, hold on or let go. Over time, the practice becomes less about surviving these shifts and more about learning how to move with them.
The point isn't to become permanently calm, endlessly positive, or spiritually immune to other people being annoying. It's to become a little less trapped by your own patterns — and a little more available for your actual life, both the one you have, and the one you're working towards.
