Ecstatic Dance Brussels org

The set of Papaya Tropical was super original and absolutely amazing ! It was mainly made of a mix of live percussions and flute with chamanic rythms and also some very well-known hits. And the glow in the dark touch added a magical side with all the colorful dragonflies dancing around me. It was a blast ! :-D

More globally, for me Ecstatic Dance Brussels is a space of freedom, expression, liberation and creativity through different types of practices (movement, singing circle, tantra…) that is really very, very valuable to me. The program of workshops/activities and DJs is very varied and allows me to learn, take care and develop the connection to myself and others, as well as to travel through different musical worlds. Gratitude for all this ! <3

A space with amazing DJs, facilitators and plenty of aliveness. I joined on days of joy and playfulness, on cloudy seasons of anger and frustration, and all in between. The nuances of each journey were different like the days of Life, but my experience always felt safe, cosy and recharging. I feel so grateful for this space and community 💚

I came to this event hoping for movement, connection, and an authentic experience. Instead, I left feeling uncomfortable with the facilitation, the group dynamics, and the atmosphere.

What concerned me most was the combination of inner-child play with sexualised prompts such as embodying a “naughty” or “horny” cat. Inner-child play can bring people into deeply vulnerable states. Introducing sexual energy into that context without clear boundaries and careful consideration of consent is irresponsible. People may be more suggestible, eager to please, or afraid to stand apart from the group than they realise.

I also sensed a strong tribal dynamic of lost souls: an implicit distinction between those who belonged and those who hadn't quite earned their place yet. In a space that claims to foster connection and freedom, that kind of social pressure can make it harder for people to trust their discomfort, question what's happening, or opt out.

These dynamics can be particularly harmful in spaces where people arrive seeking healing, belonging, or emotional release. A warm, playful atmosphere doesn't automatically make a space safe, and good intentions don't excuse poor boundaries.

I enjoyed some of the dancing, but the overall experience left me questioning a lot. 2 passive-agressive encounters with a man consciously walking towards me "on my path" (once near the vesteriaire, once on the dancefloor ) and looking down on me expecting me to move away (which I did not to cause any issues) was the final drop for me.

Nourishing space for the body and soul! The music, the host and space holders make it so welcoming for the participants to express themselves in their most authentic way. I cannot wait to return back!
