About this event

- Ontdek je nieuwe manieren om vanuit improvisatie tot choreografisch materiaal te komen;
- Experimenteer je met tekenen als choreografisch hulpmiddel;
- Onderzoek je hoe beweging, muziek, ruimte en tijd elkaar kunnen beïnvloeden;
Enige bewegings- of danservaring is gewenst.

How do you catch a spontaneous movement idea and build it into a choreography, without losing the liveliness of the improvisation?
During this workshop we explore how improvisation can grow into choreography. Not by fixing movements in advance, but by playing, drawing, making choices, and reinterpreting movement. Along the way we move back and forth between body and technology.
We start physically, with simple improvisation and partner exercises. A moving point — first a literal ball — becomes the trigger for the body. What happens when the point attracts or repels you? When you try to follow it together, claim it, or pass it on to each other? From this play, unexpected movements, rolls, lifts and duets emerge.
Next we introduce the Kandinsky app into the creative process: an experimental choreographic tool being developed at Another Kind of Blue. While listening to music, you can draw movement through space and time. Lines, routes and rhythms then become new material to be interpreted by the body.
Kandinsky doesn't generate choreography and doesn't take over the creative process. Instead, the tool helps dancers and choreographers capture ideas, explore new possibilities, and move between improvisation and composition.
Curious how drawing, music and movement come together in Kandinsky? Watch the short video for a first impression of the app and the creative process:

We then bring the drawn lines back to the body. How do you translate a line into movement? How do different dancers interpret the same drawing? And how can you repeat, edit and further develop material from an improvisation into a short composition?
During this workshop you will:
• Discover new ways to arrive at choreographic material from improvisation
• Experiment with drawing as a choreographic tool
• Explore how movement, music, space and time can influence each other
• Get to know Kandinsky and contribute to its further development
The workshop is also an open test lab. Kandinsky is still very much in development and is being tested with dancers, choreographers and students. By working with it, you not only experience a different way of choreographing, but you also help us explore how digital technology can support the creative process of dancers and choreographers. Your experiences and feedback contribute to the further development of the tool.
Kandinsky doesn't take over the choreographing, but opens up new possibilities for seeing, choosing and creating.
For who
For dancers, dance teachers, makers, choreographers, and anyone curious about improvisation, choreography and the relationship between dance and technology.
Some movement or dance experience is recommended.
You don't need professional dance experience; curiosity and a willingness to move are enough.
